“It’s OK to be imperfect”

Posted on | May 10, 2010 | 2 Comments

“It’s really kind of fun to make mistakes in social media because you can learn and recover very quickly,” says Luanne Lawrence, vice president of university advancement at Oregon State University. Since launching its “Powered by Orange“ social-media campaign last year, the school has completely changed its marketing approach for the under-40 crowd. It’s stopped buying time for broadcast ads — it simply puts its videos on YouTube now — and only invests a minimal amount in print advertising. OSU focuses instead on building community through social-media tools, and lets its students and alumni promote the OSU brand.

Thanks for the post on OSU’s campaign on the Smart Blog on Social Media.

It’s always good to see higher ed moving forward in the communications realm. We at Nebraska launched a new social-focused campaign last fall, too.

Thanks for your comment, Andy! What kind of things have you tried in your social-media campaign at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln? Do you have any lessons learned so far?
